One is a four-door coupé, the other an SAV – both are first pioneers and technological milestones on BMW’s journey towards an electrified future. The BMW i4 and BMW iX, with their highly integrated, fully electric drivetrain technology, hint at things to come.
As BMW prepares to drastically ramp up its electrification strategy, the company now plans to have at least 50 per cent of all produced cars globally on the market as fully electric vehicles by 2030. The BMW i4 and BMW iX follow the footsteps of BMW’s first fully electric models, the BMW i3 and the BMW iX3.
The BMW i4 is the brand’s first fully electric vehicle focused squarely on driving dynamics. The new four-door Gran Coupé is built to roam the roads with emission- and compromise-free driving pleasure and combines BMW’s trademark sporting prowess with comfortable range and elegant design. It launches in two model variations, the BMW i4 eDrive40 and the BMW i4 M50, the first-ever electric BMW to earn an M badge.
BMW i4 eDrive40:
Combined power consumption: 20 to 16 kWh/100km WLTP;
CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km WLTP.
BMW i4 M50:
Combined power consumption: 24 to 19 kWh/100km WLTP;
CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km WLTP.
The BMW iX introduces a new take on the SAV-segment, with an activity vehicle designed from the ground up with electric mobility in mind. As a technology flagship, it doubles as a platform for new features development, including on-board network architecture, software, digital services, connectivity and automated driving. Further highlights include the latest generation of the iDrive operating system, highly efficient energy management and countless innovative driver’s assistant features.
The BMW iX also introduces a new exterior design language and a reduced interior design with a focus on connectivity and luxurious spaciousness, taking premium electric mobility into the future. It launches in two model variants, the BMW iX xDrive40 and the BMW iX iDrive50. Both are equipped with an all-electric all-wheel-drive system offering a range of more than 600 km.
BMW iX xDrive50:
Combined power consumption: 23.0 – 19.8 kWh/100 km WLTP;
CO2 emissions: 0 g/km WLTP.
BMW iX xDrive40:
Combined power consumption: 22.5 – 19.4 kWh/100 km WLTP;
CO2 emissions: 0 g/km WLTP.
To celebrate the launch of the two new electric BMW flagships, the company partnered up with British mega-band Coldplay, whose Higher Power hit tune accompanied the worldwide launch campaign films for the two new vehicles. The partnership was born out of a shared mindset between band and brand and includes a long-term sustainable vision to the benefit of both in the years to come.
